In connection with the establishment of the new shared library system, we are introducing a common set of loan rules for all Aarhus University libraries forming part of the collaboration.
The collaboration includes the libraries associated with the main academic areas at Aarhus University, which are all open to the public, as well as the State and University Library.
The regulations is set in accordance with § 35 in the Danish Library Act No 914 of 20 August 2008.
Borrower registration
You have to be 18 years old to borrow materials. You become registered as a borrower by contacting the library in person or by registering online. As a borrower, you must confirm your registration to activate it. You are also responsible for ensuring that the library system has the correct contact details, including your e-mail address.
Library card
You need a health card or a special library card to borrow materials.
Collection
You order/reserve the books or materials you would like to borrow via the library system’s user interface or by locating them on the shelves in the open libraries. You are notified by e-mail once the material is ready for collection at the “preferred point of collection” you have requested.
Loan periods
The standard loan period is one month unless otherwise stated.
Renewal of loans
The loan period can be extended unless the material has been reserved by another borrower. You renew your items via the library system’s user interface.
Returns
You can return the material at any of Aarhus University’s libraries.
Late returns are subject to a fee in accordance with the Danish Library Act of 20 August2008.
Reminders
You receive a reminder three days before expiry of the loan period. Two additional reminders are mailed before an invoice is issued for the cost of replacement, including handling. The reminder is a service provided by the library that owns the material and is not a condition for collection of a fee.
Fees
The size of the fee depends on the number of books and other material you have borrowed. The fee is DKK 25 per item for returns 7–30 days after the due date and DKK 50 per item for delays of 31 days or more. Replacements are subject to a handling fee of DKK 150 per item.
If the amount due exceeds DKK 200, you may be excluded from borrowing.
Damaged or lost materials
If borrowed material is not returned or is damaged, the borrower must pay the costs incurred in connection with replacement or repair.
Interlibrary loans
Materials ordered from other libraries are collected at your preferred point of collection. Materials borrowed from libraries not included in the shared library system are subject to the loan rules that apply to the library that owns them.
Notices from Aarhus University libraries
Communication in connection with reminders, reservations, etc. mainly takes place via e-mail.
Borrowers are responsible for ensuring that their contact details in the library system are always up-todate.
